Research field Developmental biology and Immunology
The contents of research 　During vertebrate development, " the remodeling programs" controls break and make body parts in order to complete body form and to make a functional one.　 In the mammals, the finger formation in a limb is a good example.　Once a hand like a round lump is made, deletes the tissue between fingers, and then five fingers are completed. 　The most remarkable example can be seen in the metamorphosis of anuran amphibian.　The larva of the anuran amphibian loses a tail, grows hand and foot, and transformed into an adult frog during the course of metamorphosis.　It has been an established theory that this process including the tail regression advances autonomously by hormone. 　We have obtained " new hypothesis" that the adult-type immune cells which newly appear at metamorphosis recognize and remove the larval tail tissue as non-self.　This hypothesis is the completely new way of thinking, and there is no similar research in the world.　Therefore, our research is only one. 　It would be possible to show that immune system has not only "self- defense" function but also "remodeling" function. 　We are going to solve the questions uderlynig the mechanism of an immune system involved in the "body modeling" during metamorphosis process in a molecular level.　Those who are interested in our research please contact us!

Laboratory seminar 　　Izutsu research group is the new laboratory launched since April 2000. we have the Laboratory Seminar in cooperation with Dr. Maeno developmental biology research group every week.　 The member of lab seminar now consist of 15 persons.　 We are doing paper presentation and the research report at this seminar.　Since we are performing the seminar in the building of Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science Research, room No.109,4-5 seminar room C on Monday at 10:00 a.m. every week, We welcome those who are interested in the Laboratory, please join us freely.
