The Faculty of Science is now reorganized to a single Department


Class configuration independent of area of specialization

  • New students are grouped into six classes, regardless of the area they wish to specialize in.
  • Six faculty advisors provide academic and career counseling for each class.

Straightforward program-selection system

  • Students select their major program at the end of the first semester of their second year.
  • After enrolling, surveys are carried out several times to let students express themselves what to specialize in and they select their major programs after constant and intimate consultations with program advisors.
  • Each major program has a larger admission capacity to allow flexibility for the selection of major program.

Two methods of study, for even more possibilities

  • When selecting their major programs, students can also choose between two methods of study.
  • In the “Specialist Program”, students learn their subject specialization in a structured and systematic way.
  • In the “Comprehensive Program”, in addition to the specialized subjects, students learn more broadly subjects in related areas.

The new Faculty of Science will answer to the diverse wishes of a variety of students, and nurture science-minded individuals who will contribute to society with their scientific skills.

Faculty-Wide General Education

When students enroll in the Department of Science, Faculty of Science, they are assigned into one of six classes, and study under the careful guidance of six advisors, each of whom act as representatives for their respective programs.
Newly admitted students at first learn the university educational system, then take lectures on common general subjects, and foundation courses in multiple natural science subjects. These subjects help students determine what they want to study in the future, and prepare themselves for selecting a major program of their choice at the end of the first semester of their second year.

Seven Major Programs

The new curriculum enables students to master the fundamentals of specialized research, and acquire the ability to conduct research in new, inter-disciplinary fields that span multiple areas of specialization.
